Class response 9-27-10

This was by far the craziest class I have ever been in. It was very enjoyable and a couple of the rpesentations were very informative about fear. I was anxious to do my presentation for the entire three hours and right when it came to be my turn, the class ended.

Fear Factor

I predict my classmates' reactions to my project to be that of shock and confusion.  I don't think they will know what to think.

Experiment:

For my class experiment I decided to make an amends to Beth for not showing her the respect she deserved a few years ago.  People had mixed reactions.  Some seemed indifferent, others seemed moved and came to talk to me after class.  The outcome was basically as I expected.  The reason I predicted that people wouldn't know what to think is because I knew that my presentation was different than any other presentation.  If I were to change anything about my experiment I would have prepared a little bit more, so that I didn't cry...even though I think the crying was an enormous part of the classes reaction.

I Sense A Change On The Wind

Everyone knows about the five basic human senses, but there have been recent breakthroughs in technology that have discovered a new sense.  A"sixth" sense.  This sense is called "comp".  Few people have it.  For those who do, the sense is triggered by a the pulses that are emitted by a spinning video game disc.  The person starts to feel the pulses from the spinning in their gut as it makes it's way to their chest until finally the sensation reaches their adrenaline glands in the brain.  Once the pulses reach the brain the person is overcome with the undeniable urge to pwn someone in a game.  And yes, I said pwn.  These are the elite gamers.  Older model game consoles seem to have no effect on these gamers, but put them at Best Buy in the demo game consoles section and you will see an average man turn into a gaming lunatic.

Response to class 3 (week 4)

Class three was amusing.  I liked Beth's "jingle belt thing."  Other than that I was thinking about dragons vs. robots the whole class and arguing with myself about who would win.  Obviously ithe dragons would ultimately win.

Visualization

On September 11 I visited Broad Ripple dog park with my pit bull Wally.  While there I observed around fifteen dogs and their owners. This park isn't much to look at but the dogs love it. It allows them to interact with eachother in an open space with room to run and play.  I thought it might be sweet to have an indoor dog park at home for when dog owners can't take their dogs out.  This could incorporate the virtual reality screen and smell-o-vision, along with lots of toys.  Obviously it wouldn't be like the real thing but it may be enough to keep them entertained for an hour on days when people can't get to the park.  It would also be great for winter time when it's too cold outside.  If the screens were in a long hallway-type room the dogs could run alongside other virtual dogs and smell-o-vision could emit smells of dogs and other in interesting scents to keep them entertained.

Walking Backwards

This exercise funny. Walking backwards in front of a bunch of random people will get you some akward looks. I walked backwards on campus and at work for short periods of time and I felt uncomfortable. Not only becuase I thought that I might trip and fall, but also becuase people looked at me like I was stupid.

N385 2nd Class

This was by far the most inspiring class session I've ever had. I became a new media student a few years ago with the mindset that I wanted to be involved with cutting edge digital media, but those dreams had somewhat faded due to lack of exposure to those types of technologies. The "field trip" we took gave me that spark I use to have for this field. I am pumped! The three wall virtual 3D store were cool, but my favorite was the pen with the virtual wood (can't remember the name). Anywho, Beth had mentioned that she would be willing to help anyone who wanted to get involved with making a video game to be utilized in "the cave" and I got very excited. I love this class.
