Hidden "Pickles"

For my final project I have decided to go with the hidden theme. The scope if this project was so broad and I believe that was my main problem. How to do "something" creative....anything creative. I read on multiple websites about creativity trying to gather ideas or methods to form creative thoughts. One site said creativity is really only creativity if someone sees it as such. Others may not think something is creative but if one person does, then it is. With this class I feel like the only real way to know if your project was a success is by the class reaction since if you produce any type of project at all you will receive your points. I was not happy with my last project becuase I knew it wasnt very creative, so I hope this one is better. I think it will be. With no real requirement or guidline except for the "hidden" suggestion, I decided to present myself to the class for my project...only in a "hidden" form.  This was a super messy project. I never new paper mache could be so fun though.

**Edit - The paper mache did not come out the way I needed it to so I redid my face with Plaster of Paris strips. I didn't really want to apply the strips directly to my face so i covered my face in foil and then applied the plaster. It's not quite as defined as I wanted but I still think it's cool.

Inpiration Round Robin: Creation

My source of inspiration for this project is going to be "family".  The most inspirational aspect of my family is probably the fact that my parents are both still married, they both graduated college and they are reasonably happy.  For me, these three things are a focus of my life and I strive to be content with my life like they are.  I am still in the process of creating my project and will have it ready for class, but I do not have enough of it completed to be able to post about it on this blog.

Inspiration Round Robin

The thing that really inspires me the most is seeing people work through adversity.  I find nothing more powerful than when a group of people (from different backgrounds and cultures...etc), work together for the common good of something.  Like when a natural disaster happens or some other devastating event and people from all over come together to fight for one cause.  Thats what really inspires me.

Class Response 11/15/10

This class was a bit different than others.  I didnt really get much from it, mainly because I didn't put much thought into who I am. I think most people probably don't know exactly who they are.  For me I feel like that is the lifelong struggle.

Who the Hell Do I Think I Am?

Fro this assignment I chose to make a pot of white chili.  The chili symbolizes a ton of different ingredients that make me what I am today.  Some of the ingredients are not good to eat by themselves, but once they are all in the pot together the outcome is much more pleasing.  So I look at the person I am to day as someone who has lots of traits, some good some bad. Overall though, I am pleased with just being. I don't exactly know who I am but I know I pleased with myself either way.

Class reaction 11-8-10

The field trip to Heron was fun.  The exhibit we viewed was interesting for a short time, but after a while the music became somewhat annoying.  I understand that this type of thing qualifies as art, but I have a hard time caring.  I'm really just not that into this type of art.

What Is It?

I think the point of this assignment is possibly to show the ways that people interpret thing differently.  Some people may think an image to look like one thing, while others may see something totally different.

Class Response 10-11-10

At first when Beth told us that we didn't have come to class on this date, I thought "no way! I'm definitely not coming!"  But as the days went by I realized that I actually wanted to be in class.  The reason being that I knew that topic of God would be a very interesting debate.  As I predicted, some people were very opinionated and not there with an open mind.  It's odd how some people seem to be open minded about many things in life except God.  Is it because they would think of themselves as weak if someone makes a valid point about God and it actually changes their beliefs?

Class response 10-4-10

Wow, this class was very emotional for me.  Anyways, one of the prjects i really liked was Blair's.  I think it was a very simple idea but the actual fear that created by having an unknown substance inside of a bunch of plastic bags turned out to be very complex.

Class response 9-27-10

This was by far the craziest class I have ever been in. It was very enjoyable and a couple of the rpesentations were very informative about fear. I was anxious to do my presentation for the entire three hours and right when it came to be my turn, the class ended.

Fear Factor

I predict my classmates' reactions to my project to be that of shock and confusion.  I don't think they will know what to think.

Experiment:

For my class experiment I decided to make an amends to Beth for not showing her the respect she deserved a few years ago.  People had mixed reactions.  Some seemed indifferent, others seemed moved and came to talk to me after class.  The outcome was basically as I expected.  The reason I predicted that people wouldn't know what to think is because I knew that my presentation was different than any other presentation.  If I were to change anything about my experiment I would have prepared a little bit more, so that I didn't cry...even though I think the crying was an enormous part of the classes reaction.

I Sense A Change On The Wind

Everyone knows about the five basic human senses, but there have been recent breakthroughs in technology that have discovered a new sense.  A"sixth" sense.  This sense is called "comp".  Few people have it.  For those who do, the sense is triggered by a the pulses that are emitted by a spinning video game disc.  The person starts to feel the pulses from the spinning in their gut as it makes it's way to their chest until finally the sensation reaches their adrenaline glands in the brain.  Once the pulses reach the brain the person is overcome with the undeniable urge to pwn someone in a game.  And yes, I said pwn.  These are the elite gamers.  Older model game consoles seem to have no effect on these gamers, but put them at Best Buy in the demo game consoles section and you will see an average man turn into a gaming lunatic.

Response to class 3 (week 4)

Class three was amusing.  I liked Beth's "jingle belt thing."  Other than that I was thinking about dragons vs. robots the whole class and arguing with myself about who would win.  Obviously ithe dragons would ultimately win.

Visualization

On September 11 I visited Broad Ripple dog park with my pit bull Wally.  While there I observed around fifteen dogs and their owners. This park isn't much to look at but the dogs love it. It allows them to interact with eachother in an open space with room to run and play.  I thought it might be sweet to have an indoor dog park at home for when dog owners can't take their dogs out.  This could incorporate the virtual reality screen and smell-o-vision, along with lots of toys.  Obviously it wouldn't be like the real thing but it may be enough to keep them entertained for an hour on days when people can't get to the park.  It would also be great for winter time when it's too cold outside.  If the screens were in a long hallway-type room the dogs could run alongside other virtual dogs and smell-o-vision could emit smells of dogs and other in interesting scents to keep them entertained.

Walking Backwards

This exercise funny. Walking backwards in front of a bunch of random people will get you some akward looks. I walked backwards on campus and at work for short periods of time and I felt uncomfortable. Not only becuase I thought that I might trip and fall, but also becuase people looked at me like I was stupid.

N385 2nd Class

This was by far the most inspiring class session I've ever had. I became a new media student a few years ago with the mindset that I wanted to be involved with cutting edge digital media, but those dreams had somewhat faded due to lack of exposure to those types of technologies. The "field trip" we took gave me that spark I use to have for this field. I am pumped! The three wall virtual 3D store were cool, but my favorite was the pen with the virtual wood (can't remember the name). Anywho, Beth had mentioned that she would be willing to help anyone who wanted to get involved with making a video game to be utilized in "the cave" and I got very excited. I love this class.

The Egg and Eye

With the egg I was given, I took a series of photos depicting a syringe sucking the egg white and yolk from the shell and injecting it into my vein.  The result of this is me being turned into an egg head... the last photo in the series being manipulated photo of me with an egg as a head.  This of course is only a depiction.  I do not inject eggs into my veins... usually.

NEWM N385 First Class

I'm so pumped about this class!  I had no idea what to expect but I can tell it is going to be a wild semester. Roller chair races, eggs, people with helmets on...what else could you want?  Beth is the best.  I'm so glad I took this course.  I've never had a class like this!  MWAH HA HA HA
